Senior Platform Engineer

How would it sound if you could influence how data from Finland’s largest online store, one of the largest Finnish customer bases, and a vast amount of gaming event data is used to create a solid foundation for information-based leadership?

We are looking for an experienced technology professional to bring additional expertise and vision to our Data as a Service team of about 20 people responsible for technology data solutions. We are part of Veikkaus’ TECH function, which has over 400 employees. The position is permanent and full-time.

Data as a Service is responsible for the centralized collection, processing, distribution, and related technical solutions of business data at Veikkaus. Our new colleague will strengthen the smaller platform team of four experts. The platform team is responsible of data development technologies and tools and data platform solutions. The most important parts of the data platform are the data reception interfaces, stream and batch data processing systems, data warehouses, and tools related to the work of data engineers. The job involves both operational work and continuous platform development, as well as supporting other development projects at Veikkaus.

The daily work includes maintaining existing data platforms and tools, building new ones, and developing our operations through both technological solutions and working methods. We expect our future colleague to have the ability to develop and maintain data development and data platform tools, implementing the best practices, developing the team’s operating models, and guide daily work routines, when necessary, not to mention helping colleagues.

Currently, our most important tools and technologies include GCP with its native solutions (e.g., Big Query, GCP Pub/sub, Cloud Functions), Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Apache Kafka, Apache Nifi, and Pentaho (PDI). Expertise in real-time processing and tools and cloud experience are required. However, we do not require expertise in all of these, as we believe that your experience will help you adopt them easily with sufficient accuracy. DevOps experience is also beneficial, since we have recently moved our operations to the cloud.
