As a Senior/Principal Artist you will be responsible for creating outstanding nature environments. You will be working with your team members to help make your work shine and fit within the creative direction and technical constraints of Pax Dei, our social sandbox MMO.

At Mainframe, we are building Pax Dei: a social sandbox MMO, a living world where myths are real, ghosts exist, and magic is unquestioned. A world that players worldwide will call their home and where they will craft their stories for years to come.
Your mission:
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to spearhead the natural environment development of our cloud native MMO. You will make a big impact on the direction of our game in our small, supportive, and experienced team.
Your responsibilities:
- You will create outstanding vegetation and nature assets in a cross disciplinary team using the latest technology.
- You will will work together with technical artists to improve our shaders and vegetation scattering pipeline
- You will author and balance the look of the various nature environments to achieve the best results
Some success indicators for your role:
- You have experience working as a AAA game artist
- You’re an expert in creating vegetation using SpeedTree and/or other workflows
- Being skilled at creating great looking rocks and terrain would be a real asset
- You love making and playing games
- Experience in Unreal Engine would be a super boost for you and your team

You will join in on exciting times as our MMO starts to breathe life! During Pax Dei Early Access – planned for Spring 2024 – we are also learning from our players and developing new features. Working on a live game implies that you won’t have to keep everything you are working on secret and, most importantly, that you’ll have data and feedback about the features you work on shortly after their implementation.

We are a small team working on a challenging project, and, for us, every team member counts; as such, we value transparency in our communication and decision-making processes.
Location and work:
Your role is based preferably in Finland, Iceland, or France, where we have our offices. We are open to discussing remote work but, we prefer to stay in the time zones between Helsinki and Reykjavik. We believe in good work-life balance and working where you are most productive.
As our teams are spread over several locations, we have weekly online team meetings for everyone to share their progress and learnings. We also encourage teams to meet up physically regularly to strengthen team spirit.
