1939 Games is a gaming studio with offices in Reykjavík, Iceland and Helsinki, Finland, staffed with veterans of the gaming industry. 1939 Games is the developer of the digital collectible card game KARDS: The WW2 Card Game, available on PC and mobile platforms.

1939 Games is seeking a highly skilled and creative Web Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of front-end and back-end web development technologies, with a passion for creating engaging and responsive websites. You will work closely with our design and development teams to build and maintain high-quality, scalable web applications that deliver a seamless user experience.

The position is Full-time and Permanent, and located in Helsinki, Finland.

Responsibilities:

  • Continue work on an existing game specific website, a company website and an internal website which for example includes customer support tools.
  • Design and develop new features.
  • Maintain, optimize and improve existing features.
  • Directing and performing updates.
  • Collaborate with designers to ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
  • Optimize websites and web applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Implement security and data protection measures.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Web Developer or similar role.
  • Has designed, built, deployed and maintained a website.
  • Extensive knowledge of web applications, programming languages, and web services – including CSS, cross-browser compatibility, HTML, JavaScript, security principles, REST, and web user interface design.
  • Knowledge of SEO principles.
  • Experience with version control systems.
  • Strong understanding of some server-side languages such as Python, Ruby, Java, PHP, or .Net.
  • Familiarity with database technology such as Postgres, MySQL or Oracle.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS).
  • Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.


Nice to Haves:

  • Experience on creating sites localized for multiple languages.
  • Ability to work independently and do things without constant guidance.
  • High degree of independent judgment.

The primary focus of the job is on the front-end, and experience with interfacing to back-ends is absolutely necessary. Back-end skills are a bonus but not essential.

The normal 3-month probationary period will be used on small projects to assess skills and company culture fit, before moving to large projects.
