Art Director (Slingshot Studio)

We are looking for a hands on Art Director to join our successful Slingshot Studio in Espoo, Finland.

Rovio’s Slingshot Studio is the place where hugely successful games such as Angry Birds and Angry Birds Friends are hatched. Our games have been downloaded billions of times, and are played by millions players worldwide. As we develop the next great games to take the world by storm, including the next big Angry Birds game, we seek to build and inspire talented teams to craft the best games for our players.

This is a senior role at the studio, and while we are more than happy to help diverse candidates make the step up, you will need some mixture of experience, aptitude and passion in four key areas.

You’ll need vision. We need someone to help define the artistic vision for our games. You will work with the team of super talented senior artists to help to develop new IPs and new interpretations of the world known Angry Birds brand.

You’ll need to ensure consistency and quality. Rovio is well known for making games with genuinely world-class production values. You need to take responsibility for ensuring that our studio is producing work of the absolute highest quality, and making sure the vision is consistent.

You’ll need to make stuff. In our studio everybody is expected to roll their sleeves and get their hands dirty, so you will need to be comfortable creating concept art as well as making usable assets to help us move quickly during different phases of development.

You want to coach and elevate your team. You will be the team lead for our studio talented artists and will help attract and recruit new talent for the studio. You get joy out of bringing out the best in people and seeing them grow and become even better.

You’ll fit in our flock if you have:

  • Excellent vision of what great looks like, and an ability to communicate that vision
  • Ability to create great art on time
  • Strong interest in games and gameplay
  • Holistic view of game making, caring about all parts to make the best whole for our fans
  • Passion for defining, managing and refining processes in art development
  • Experience on published games using a game engine such as Unity 3D or similar
  • Excellent multitasking, organisational, communication, and team collaboration skills

We’d love you to have these feathers in your cap:

  • 3+ years of experience in the games industry, preferably in an international environment with a similar or equivalent job description
  • Proven artistic skills in 2D and 3D
  • Strong passion for games, shown in your portfolio
  • Enjoy spreading and fostering the creation of knowledge
  • Open to feedback and eager to learn and apply new skills in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Collaborative and consensus driven approach
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluent English
